The Dutch government has the constitutional duty to provide high quality education for everybody. What we understand by that is debatable. However, one thing is certain: it is the quality of the teachers that makes or mars education.
This website of SBL, the Association for the Professional Qualities of Teachers, gives information about the 'Professions in Education Act' (BIO) and the required competences. Furthermore, the website tries to motivate and stimulate teachers to take control of their own professionalism, and to keep up a high professional standard, individually as well as with colleagues and the entire school team.
Only a small part of the extensive information on this site has been translated into English. On the left side you will find links to the 'Professions in Education Act' (BIO), the competences for teachers (including the links to the introduction of the three sets of competences and their competence requirements for primary education, secundary and vocational education and pre-higher education) and to SBL (with the link to a frequently used folder with basic information).
Besides, there are a couple of other English texts; you will find these below the button supplementary texts on the right side of this page.
